Six Word Saturday

Poor Jade keeps calling the
chickens.

I came in late last night. I made sure the chickens were okay, the dogs were fine. My friends and I played with the animals before I headed to bed. I fell asleep, the dogs were barking but nothing of the unusual, as they bark if the wind blows right.
Hubby got back from fishing and noticed all the feathers in the yard. Noticed that the chickens were gone. He came to wake me up to tell me about the chickens.
We think coyotes got them. We live in the boonies, here in the south and coyotes are so bad, along with other wild dogs. Needless to say we have no more chickens. We didn’t have them in their cage, as they have been free roaming for about 2 weeks now.
Jade woke up this morning, she did her normal routine; potty, check on daddy and headed outside. She stood on the porch with her hands around her mouth and called her chicks chicks as loud as she could. I bent down and told her, “The chicks chicks went bye bye.” How do you explain to a 3 year old that the little things that would run with her, and stand by her, her “pets” are no longer here? She looked so disgusted, she threw herself on her bottom and begin to pout. I think Daddy and Mommy are going to buy “new” chickens.

(these were our big chickens)
RIP Chick Chicks
We also had 4 babies (3 months old)

  2. What a shame… Did every single one disappear including the big ones? I guess you’d house them in a coop if you get new ones… A friend lost her puppy to coyotes too. 😦
PS. Catching up on commenting again after a hectic week that included 3 long days/nights at a yoga event. I will be attending another workshop in the coming week (7/11-7/14)and if I don’t leave comments, I will follow up on my return. πŸ™‚

    • So nice of you to catch up. πŸ™‚ We had a coop for the chickens but it was getting crowded, so hubby was letting them roam free. They were fine for 2 weeks then one morning we woke up to feathers 😦 This time when we get chicks we are getting ones that stay small. and we are fixing their coop. Our daughter still calls for her babies. She will walk around the yard saying, “Chick Chickkssss Where are ouuuuuuu”

    • Thanks Tilly. We are trying. I think we will be busy enough for 2 more days that she wont talk about them so much. Hope you have a great day.

  4. Sorry to hear about your chickens – your little girl must be devastated. We’ve always had chickens and my boys grew up cuddling them and playing with them. Luckily we don’t have the fear of coyotes in Australia.

Foxes yes, but very rarely where we are

    • Every time she goes out she still calls them. We are looking for more, but we want them as babies again, so they can get use to us. We have foxes here too, but never seen foxes get close enough. Coyotes around here are so bad. Thank you for coming by! πŸ˜€

Aw. I’m sorry. 😦 I’m not sure how you’d break that, but new chickens does seem to be a good start.
